British Ambassador Sir Peter Westmacott and Ms. Susan Nemazee hosted a "Winter Buffet" party in their historical residence in Çankaya on Tuesday evening.
This is a reception that they have traditionally hosted just before the new year.
The majority of guests at the affair were members of parliament, but a number of ambassadors also attended the reception. Among them was dean of the diplomatic corps Palestinian Ambassador Fouad Yaseen as well as envoys from the Russian Federation, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Canada, Japan, Australia, Norway, Tunisia, Algeria, the Vatican, Spain, Italy, Serbia and Montenegro, Portugal and Argentina, who all attended with their spouses.
Defense Minister Vecdi Gönül represented the Turkish government. Former Foreign Minister and parliamentary European Union Commission Chairman Yaşar Yakış, Gama owner Erol Üçer and Sevda-Cenap And Music Foundation Chairman Mehmet Başman were in attendance. Ambassador Ömer Akbel from the Foreign Ministry and Prime Ministry Human Rights Board Chairman Vahit Bıçak were also among the guests.
The sole topic of conversation was Turkey's membership in the European Union. |
